Kuben joined Primedia as an executive director in May 2000 and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the advertising division of Primedia in September 2002, and as Chief Executive Officer of the Group in 2009. Ken Varejes
Chief Executive Officer
Leading Primedia Unlimited as CEO is Ken Varejes, a man who is renowned for his enthusiasm, drive and passion for media innovation. During his career, Ken has pioneered numerous sustainable media options to the South African market –most notably, ComutaNet’s growth into South Africa’s leading commuter advertising organisation under his helm as Managing Director. His ability to break through the ‘traditional media’-this mindset was rewarded by his appointment as CEO of PRIMEDIA’s Out of Home and Commuter Media Divisions from 2003 until he opened the doors of Primedia Unlimited in January 2005. |
Grant Willemse
Chief Operating Officer
Grant Willemse took up the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Primedia Unlimited at the beginning of May 2007. Willemse has an undeniable creative energy and business acumen. As winner of a Cannes Media Lion and the 2003 AMASA Roger Garlick Award for his Osram Light Bulbs ‘Studio Lights’ campaign, Willemse has never been short of innovative ideas and has always played an invaluable role for the company he keeps. Chairperson of the Financial Directors Forum of the ACA (Association for Communication and Advertising) and a member of the ACA Operations Committee, Willemse is exceptionally well-recognised by his peers in the industry and has been a mentor and friend to many. |
Jabulani Mahange
Director
Jabu joined Primedia as Group Human Capital Executive in July 2009. He was previously a board member and Human Resources Director at Johson & Johnson Medical from 01 April 2005 to 30 June 2009. He began his career as a teacher, and joined Standard Bank Human Resources in 1992. Jabu also held senior Human Resources positions at ABSA, Deloitte and the Edcon Group. |
Fiaz Mohamed
Director
Fiaz joined Ster- Kinekor Theatres in 1989 and was appointed GM of Cape Town in CEO in November 2000. He was later appointed COO in November 2003 and CEO in March 2006. Fiaz is responsible for overseeing the largest cinema chain in South Africa and neighbouring territories comprising 55 cinemas, more than 400 screens, 60 + % market share and 1500 employees. |
Chris Patricios
Non-executive Director
Chris joined Primedia in 2008 as Group Finance Manager and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in June 2011. Prior to that he had served as Financial Director of a division of Servest (Pty) Ltd. He worked within KPMG’s Hospitality and Leisure business unit for three years and prior to that had spent two years with Credit Suisse in London. Chris qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) on completion of his articles at KPMG in 2002 and he holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accounting degree, both from the University of Witwatersrand. |

Retha le Roux
Group Financial Manager
Retha has been appointed as the Group Financial Manager from January 2012. Her career spans 20 years across various industries, the latest was as Head of Finance for the Kumnandi Food Company, the largest KFC Franchise holder in South Africa. Retha’s qualifications include a BCom Accounting degree (Rau), BCompt Honours degree (Unisa) and a Masters of Business Leadership (Unisa SBL). She has proven all-round skills in senior Financial roles and her management skills together with strategic planning and execution abilities rank very highly. |
Molefi Moloantoa
Divisional CEO
Molefi took up the position as PRIMEDIA’s Executive: Business Development in 2006, where he led the Strategic Advertising Unit. The unit facilitates group deal negotiations, develops new business opportunities and assists the group in acquiring media rights. He was also the Chairman of the Sales Directors and Marketing Managers Forum, a non-executive Director of Primedia Education (Pty) Ltd and was a member of the Primedia Foundation. As the Divisional Chief Executive Officer, Molefi is tasked with overseeing the operational and strategic objectives of the division which consist of the following companies: Primall Media (Pty) Ltd, Primedia Lifestyle (Pty) Ltd, Mall Active, MallWorx and Source. |
Liza Murphy
Group Marketing Manager
Liza joined Primedia Unlimited in October 2006 to apply her strengths in strategy, marketing and media. Liza’s main duties include strategically coordinating the marketing efforts across the Primedia Unlimited group, using the tools of corporate communications, online media management, strategic research, data and costing analyses and information sharing between the various subsidiaries. Prior to joining the Unlimited Team, Liza consolidated her decade of experience at companies MEC Global, Telmar, SABC (TV Sponsorships and Marketing Services), Mindshare, and Media 24 and completed an internship at The Media Shop. Liza completed a BA at Rhodes University and post-graduate diploma through the AAA. |
Eugene Vorster
Divisional Marketing Manager
Eugene joined Unlimited as a media strategist in October 2010, taking up the position of Divisional Marketing Manager in June 2011. He is responsible for the marketing strategy of Unlimited’s retail portfolio which includes Primall Media, MallWorx and Mall Active. Eugene also heads up the media strategy for Primedia Lifestyle’s in-house media department Media Xpress. Having forged his career at companies such as The Media Shop, AGBNielsen, Universal McCann, McCann Advertising, RSG FM, FCB Lindsay Smithers and Caxton’s then Newspaper Marketing Bureau, Eugene brings to Unlimited a skill set groomed over 24 years in the industry. He is currently completing a Visual Arts degree at UNISA and has completed post-graduate diploma in eCommerce and a B.A degree through UNISA. |
